Dear Moose Community,

We are so excited to come together next Wednesday (September 25th) for Open House. Students and families are invited back to the school from 6:00-7:00 pm. Families may tour classrooms, meet teachers and visit all areas of the school-- including the playground and track! Most classrooms will have a fun scavenger hunt available for families to participate with. Please remember that this night is not a night for specific conferences and discussions. It is a get-to-know you event. Teachers will have sign-up sheets for specific parent/guardian conferences available at Open House. There will be some organizations and people in the gym (including me!) to visit. We will have a small treat in the gym for visitors as well. It will be a fun night to see the learning environments and school community members. Can't wait to see you there!

Have you been hearing tunes from Annie or have you been treated to a dance number from your student? Students are having a blast performing with Miss Samm in performing Arts Class. A school-wide production of Annie is in the works for December! Stay tuned!

If you would like to be in the PTO student directory, please make sure you sign up today! It's a handy item to be in for contacts around playdates! Classroom teachers or PTO reps for classrooms have shared this email with classes.

Celebrate Shutesbury happens tomorrow on the town common. There's lots of fun things planned for all ages! A bounce house and pumpkin painting will be available from your PTO!

Have a beautiful autumn weekend.

Jackie

***SCHOOL NEWS***

We are happy to let you know that the school is piloting a brief weekly all-school mindfulness* practice.  We believe this will support our efforts to help children feel calmer, more engaged, and part of a community of learners.  We feel that the simple practice of dropping everything and paying attention to the feelings, sounds and sights around us contributes to one's ability to participate more fully in the school day.  This will be led by Andrea Darby** using the intercom and supported by classroom teachers.  All the students will have been introduced to the practice before we begin.  We are excited to try this and hope that you are able to support our effort by asking your children about their experience.  Please feel free to contact your classroom teacher with questions or concerns.

*Mindfulness: Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment with openness and curiosity.   Or, more simply put: The practice of paying attention to what is happening in the present moment, without judgement.

** Andrea is a long time mindfulness practitioner and teacher who has trained with Mindful Schoolshttps://www.mindfulschools.org/

***MOOSE LODGE CLUB (AFTERSCHOOL) NEWS***

Moose Lodge Club Update: Hello Shutesbury Moose Community. The protocol for having students stay with our club after school is different than in the past. If you wish to enroll your child, or to be approved for a drop in slot, please only connect with Mr. Steven Carra directly via email. With approval, and a club contract students can then, bring a yellow note to school.  Payments must be made at latest, the morning of attendance, via check, or online.

Thank you for reading and understanding the new adjustments. This will help me to spend more time creating and planning each amazing session with for our Moose Lodgers.

Sincerely, Mr. Carra ([email protected])

***PTO NEWS***

BOXTOPS! BOXTOPS! BOXTOPS!

Each year our school earns hundreds of dollars from the Boxtops for Education program. Have you seen the boxtops logos on your cereal boxes and food wrappers? Lots of grocery products and office supplies have boxtops! Some examples of popular brands that participate are Annie’s, Cascadian Farms, General Mills, Paper Mate,  Ziplocs, and LaraBars.

Now there are two ways you can help:

1.  Before you put those boxes and wrappers in the recycling , cut the boxtops out and send them to the school!  Each boxtops earns us 10 cents. You can send in boxtops to the school anytime.  Remember to check their expiration dates.  Anything with a 2018 date or older can be tossed!

2. You may have noticed that some products have transitioned to a paperless scan your receipt system. You can go to BTFE.com for more information. Basically using an app you can scan your receipt and all boxtops earnings go directly to our school!

It really does all add up!

Thanks,

Amber O’Brien

(boxtops coordinator )

**VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  The PTO will be sponsoring several activities at Celebrate Shutesbury on Saturday 9/21 and could use some help!

Would you like to face paint, help kiddos paint pumpkins, sit by the bounce house or be the point person for people who will use the tag sale spaces?

Please consider giving an hour or two to take part in this fun community event.  The PTO would really appreciate your help!  Contact [email protected] for more information and to let us know you are willing to help make this event a success!

**Your PTO at Open House will have t-shirts and mums for sale!
