We have entered the month of October with beautiful weather, changing leaves and a lot of hustle and bustle at school.  We are getting into a routine while also starting our instrument programs, going on field trips and fitting in time to run on the track!  Today the 4h grade is going to Skinner State Park and the Kindergarten and 6th grades are walking to the Old School House.  What a treat to go on a field trip with your buddies!

Next week is a short week for students.  On Friday, October 11 the staff will participate in Curriculum Day so students will not have school.  The following Monday, October 14, we will not have school in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

School conferences are coming up.  There were some sign-ups for conferences at Open House, but if you haven't scheduled with your child's teacher, please be in touch with them.  Students will be dismissed early (1:00pm) on Thursday, Oct. 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 29 for conferences. Conferences will be held on 10/23, 10/24, 10/29 and 10/30.  We look forward to seeing families during those weeks!

Have a beautiful fall weekend!

Jackie

***SCHOOL NEWS***

Hello Shutesbury Moose,

Lately, in PE we have been finishing up our tag games and cooperative games unit. Some favorites include fire and ice tag, and of course blob tag. Possibly, the biggest challenge for the students in fire and ice tag, is the statue pose they choose to hold when frozen. We had some students, even in Kindergarten, accepting big challenges and holding one foot poses, and push up poses. These amazing statues may wobble after a while, but often remained sturdy and strong! In blob tag the students' greatest challenge was balancing speed and teamwork. Especially, as the blob grew, strategy may have even become more important that quick feet.  Feel free to continue this conversation at home and ask what values were needed to play these games. Enjoy the pictures of what they create together, and have a wonderful, and active week!

Sincerely,

Mr. Steven A. Carra

***MOOSE LODGE CLUB (AFTERSCHOOL) NEWS***

Hello SES! Here is a snapshot of what our Moose Lodge Club has been up to lately. Some of our activities include: building spaghetti and marshmallow towers, created pumpkin drawings that share "Fall about me", and solving hula hoop puzzles. Our towers only used to types of items, but the students earned more items by working together and even coming up with some very elaborate secret handshakes. It was also great to learn about everyone's favorite fall activities as our Lodger's artistic abilities were shining. We focus a lot on our values, as our teamwork was put to the test when a hula hoop had to be transferred nimbly around an adjoining circle. Check out all our fun below!
