Dear SES Community,

Well, we've made it through our first full week of school in 2020! It has been a fabulous week. It seems whenever students come back from December break they have grown 2 inches! It has been delightful seeing students settling into the next half of the school year.

This week grades 5 & 6 had a great field trip to UMASS and Amherst College Beneski Museum. Next week SES will be treated to a concert of the Hampshire Young People's Chorus on Friday at 11 am. We look forward to welcoming the YPC and enjoying their beautiful music!

We have welcomed several new students over the past few weeks. We want to extend a warm welcome to all of our new SES families. We are so happy you are here!

Jackie

***MOOSE INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK***

Elodie from Kindergarten!
EW

JCB:  What do you like best about school?
EW:  I like walking down to do the binders and seeing the office.

JCB:  What do you like to do when you’re at home?
EW:  I like to play with Pebble, my dog.  We play of tug-of-war and fetch.  We also got one of those things that you put the ball in and you throw with your arm, I forget what they are called though. Let’s just call it a thrower.

JCB:  What’s your favorite book?
EW:  I like The Interrupting Chicken.  It’s in the school library and our classroom.  It won the Caldecott Medal.

JCB:  What do you want to be when you grow up?
EW:  I want to be a person who helps animals more, that are almost endangered or already endangered, so they don’t die more.  I want to help them.

JCB:  What is your favorite food?
EW:  Hash browns!

JCB:  Do you like Chef Gail’s hash browns or home fries?
EW:  Well, they are potatoes cut into squares and they’re a little spicy.  I like Mom’s homemade hash browns.  She shreds and then cuts them.  They are really yummy.

JCB:  What do you like to do on the playground?
EW:  I like to play, we’re little snow tigers and we collect snow with the sleds, and then we put them around our waist and carry it home to under the slides and stuff.  Yesterday I was a mom, and the day before that I was a baby.

JCB:  Anything else you’d like the Shutesbury community to know about you?
EW:  I like my family and I also like my pets and my chickens but it’s sad that most of my chickens died because a coyote attacked.
