November 5, 2015

Dear Moose,

I hope this RTN finds you adjusted to daylight savings time, and not too upset at the fact that it is getting darker and darker earlier. We have been quite spoiled with the mild temperatures and beautiful weather this week. Here’s hoping that some of that beautiful sunshine continues into next week.

I am sad to announce that our after-school director, Amie Trinque, has accepted a full time position at Sunderland Elementary School. She will not be able to continue as our SAS director. We are so grateful to Amie for her time here and helping us create new policies and procedures within our program. Going forward we are hiring new staff, and some of our amazing SES staff will be joining the program for support. Dominique Bienvenue will be dealing with the billing, registration and paperwork. The program structure will continue in Amie’s absence. We look forward to continued program success.

The PTO will be sponsoring a Harvest Dinner on Friday, November 20th in the gym.  The potluck dinner will take place from 5:30-6:30. From 6:30-8:00 there will be some exciting contra dancing! We hope your family will participate in this delicious community event. If you have any questions or can help with this event, you can contact Jade Alicandro Mace ([email protected]) or Ashleigh Pyecroft ([email protected]). Please read the PTO blurb in this RTN for more specific details on this event.

Next week, school pictures will take place on Tuesday, November 10th. Students have been sent home with information on this. If you need that information again, we have extra copies in the office. Also, there is no school on Veteran’s Day, Wednesday November 11th.

Our Artists-in-Residence will begin meeting with students next week. Every classroom will have a first session next week, or the following week. Teachers have identified a science theme that their classrooms will study this year. The artists have been thinking about ways to help students create stories around that theme. These stories will be told through dance. We are super excited about this experience. This is a reminder that the whole-school production will be December 16th at 7:00pm.

We have finished up our fall family conferences. We are so lucky for the community we have here at SES. Thanks for all you do to support our students and our school.

Best,

Jackie

Moose Interview of the Week!

Joanna from 4th Grade!

JM: Hey it’s JoJo! Do you want to go by JoJo or your full name for this interview?

JG: Well, I am going by Joanna now. But you can call me JoJo because you’re Ms. Mendonsa.

JM: What do you love about our school?

JG: I like that the teachers are really nice… including the principal of course (chuckles). There are no mean bullies here.

JM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

JG: I would like to be someone who works at Ven’s Owl Center in Vermont. I actually think it is called Raptor. There are a lot of different birds there like Bald Eagles and Falcons. I want to help birds that need help so that they can survive.

JM: What are you enjoying about 4th grade?

JG: I am enjoying that we are doing some very interesting map things that I’ve never really thought about. We made a map of our heart and we also made a map of our classroom. We had to hide a penny and make a map to find it.

JM: If you could eat any kind of food for the rest of your life what would it be?

JG: I think it would probably have to be healthy, so I’ll go with pomegranates. They are nice and they last a long time and it won’t kill you to eat a lot of them. It will make you healthy. It won’t make you have bone problems.
