December 4, 2015

Dear SES Community,

Welcome to December! We have all been busy dancing away with our artists Ashley and Caddy! Families should be hearing about any special colors of clothing students will need for costumes in their spectacular performance. We don’t want to give too much away about our school-wide show, but we will give you the big theme: The Last Winter on Earth. Dramatic, isn’t it? Be prepared for some beautiful music, dancing, and learning of some wintery-themed science! Remember, all students are asked to perform with our school on December 16th at 10:00 am and 7:00 pm.

We have noticed that there seems to be a lot of nuts coming into the school in snacks and lunches. We want to make sure to remind the community that we are an allergy aware school. We are asking that nuts not come into classrooms and the cafeteria to help keep our students and staff safe.

By now, everyone should have seen our FABULOUS SES Moose shirts that are for sale by the PTO! They are a hit! Order forms have been sent home with all students and are attached to this Roadtown. See the SES website for the color photo of the shirts. If you can, please consider donating a few extra dollars to help us ensure that all students at SES receive a Moose-y T-Shirt. Thanks again to the PTO for the organization of this opportunity.

I want to extend another big THANKS to the PTO for the organization and facilitation of a delicious and fun Harvest Dinner on November 20th.  Special shout outs go to Ashleigh Pyecroft and Jade Alicandro Mace for taking the lead on this event. Also, an engaging puppet show by Shutesbury’s own Anna Sobel made possible by the support of the M.N. Spear Memorial Library. This event reminded everyone what a special community we have and how grateful we are for the students, teachers and families that fill our school everyday.

Looking ahead, there are a lot of happenings! There is a Safety Committee Meeting on the 7th, a School Council Meeting on the 8th,, the Winter Performance on the 16th and a School Committee Meeting on the 17th.

Sincerely,

Jackie

Moose Interview of the Week!

Shae from 4th Grade!

JM: What do you love about our school?

STP: Well, I find that we are a very unique school. I love that there’s everything from sports and PE to art. I like how everyone knows each other and can walk in the hall and say “hi” to people you know. I also love that we have a moose mascot. It is exciting. This school can have a lot of surprises.

JM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

STP: Well, mostly an author. I find writing books makes us authors special, and the way we write our stories shows people who we are. When I write a book it gives me a very special feeling that I never want to go away. When you’re an author, even a young one, your writing can take you anywhere.

JM: What are you enjoying about 4th grade?

STP: Well, I am mostly enjoying how hysterical my friends can be. Also, how unique my class is. If we all stood up next to each other, you would see that not one of us looks like each other. We are all very different. I think it makes us unique.  It’s what makes us a special 4th grade class.

JM: What’s your favorite subject?

STP: Hmmm, I think science. Learning about electricity is so fascinating. We did a project recently where when had to use 3 objects from the science table to make a light bulb light up. Ms. Scott didn’t tell anyone how to do it, she just instructed us on what materials we could use and what our goal was. When I figured it out and the light bulb turned on, I felt something inside me sparkle as well. Sometimes when you learn something new, you don’t feel something. Other times, what you learn is just so amazing, it feels like a light bulb gets flicked on.

JM: If you could eat any kind of food for the rest of your life what would it be?

STP: Strawberry Cool Whip Pie. There’s a definite history related to that. It is my Grandmother and her baking.  My Grandma can bake so well it is almost like she has magic in the tip of her fingers. When her talent hits the kitchen the great smells fill the whole house. Everyone knows there’s something tasty going on in the kitchen.

Return items in Shutesbury!

~Returning items borrowed from other Massachusetts Libraries to the Shutesbury Library is encouraged. The M.N. Spear Memorial Library is on a state-wide library delivery route. Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, a delivery driver stops at our library, bringing inter-library loan items for Spear Library patrons to borrow. The driver picks up out-going bins filled with some of our items to be borrowed by patrons in other communities and items Spear Library patrons borrowed from other libraries and returned in Shutesbury.

Items borrowed at other C/W MARS libraries, (Jones, Leverett, Greenfield, Sunderland, Forbes and 140 more) will be checked-in and cleared from your account and then placed in an outgoing bin.

We are happy to be able to provide this service and you should never hesitate to return library items at the Spear if it is convenient for you.
