Dear Moose,
As January is coming to a close, our spring event planning is speeding up! Our music and art teachers, Ms. Chris and EveLynn have booked May 4th for our whole school art show and music concert. The theme this year is “Outer Space”. Students will be performing music pieces and movement related to space. It will be an out-of this-world experience.
Also, mark your calendars NOW for our famous annual Spaghetti Supper and Silent Auction on May 13th. The fabulous 6th grade and their families will help cook and serve a scrumptious meal in the fanciest restaurant in Shutesbury—our gym!
As many families know, we are using a different spelling and word work curriculum this year called “Words their Way”. Students and teachers are finding the program very engaging and beneficial for our students. You have probably seen word sorts and activities coming home. We are starting to look into ways to incorporate technology into this word work. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more information around Words their Way! Feel free to ask your child’s teacher for more specifics around this program.
It looks like we will escape the vast amount of snow that was predicted earlier in the week. I hope your family enjoys the weekend, and any amount of precipitation that may fall.
Best,
Jackie

*SAVE THE DATE!
SES Arts Night will be held on May 4, 2016 at 6pm
Join us for a night of Music and Art that will be out of this world!
The theme this year is Outer Space. Students will be performing music and movement to pieces from Gustav Holst's Planets Suite and John Williams' Star Wars. We'll sing about Twinkling Stars and Rocketships, too.
Beautiful student artwork will fill the halls, including special musical instrument art pieces that students will play as part of our out-of-this-world performance!
*SUPPLIES NEEDED!
SES is in need of a few used items that some families might be willing to donate. We are looking for coloring books (a few used pages are fine), decks of playing cards, Legos, and G-rated children’s movies on DVD or VHS. If you are able to donate any of these items to the school, please send them in to the office with your child. Thank you!
