Principal’s Message:

October 10, 2014

Dear SES Community,

Last Friday I experienced my first SES Harvest Dinner. What a lovely event! Not only was the food incredible, but we had lots of amazing donated raffle prizes as well. What a joy it was to see our students and families cutting-a-rug and contra-dancing. From the burlap tablecloths, beautiful wildflowers, delicious food, fun entertainment and prizes, it was such the perfect autumn evening. Special thanks go to April Woodard-McNiff and the parents and community members who spent time and energy on the dinner’s organization.

This past weekend the families of our 5th and 6th graders were baking away with the apples collected on their field trip! I have to say, one thing that I have learned about Shutesbury is that it is filled with AMAZING chefs and bakers! Students and staff happily munched away on apple treats bought at the “Apple Store” on Tuesday and Wednesday. The 5th and 6th graders raised some money for future trips from this event.

This week students were busy in their classrooms diving into units and lessons. Chess Club and Drama Club began with great success. School Council met for our first meeting of the year on Tuesday, October 7th. You can access the School Council meeting notes and agendas on our school website.

Looking ahead to next week, our School Book Fair will be held from Tuesday-Friday

(October 14th-17th). Students and families can also purchase books in the evening on Wednesday, the 15th from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Have a great 3-day weekend! See you on Tuesday!

Jackie Mendonsa, Principal

Superintendent Search Survey

The search for the new Superintendent is beginning. As a first step, the search committee will need input from the school community regarding the qualities and skills of our next school leader. A survey has been created to gather that information. Please go to:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QSF762S to view the survey which will take approximately five minutes to conclude. The deadline for the survey is October 25, 2014.

Thank you in advance of your efforts to assist in this process.
