Principal’s Message:

November 21, 2014
Dear SES Community,
It’s hard to believe that we have 2 more school days until our Thanksgiving recess.  We will not send the Roadtown News out next Tuesday, but you can expect some sort of communication from me before the break.

Our students have been submitting ideas for the creation of our SES mascot. The student council explained to the student body that our mascot must symbolize important traits of our school community. As a result, the submissions have been very thoughtful and exciting. We are thrilled to continue this project! The final vote and unveiling of the mascot will occur in early December!

Some of our 6th grade students have turned into amazing math tutors to our younger students. Three times a week, early in the morning, these student tutors do an amazing job reviewing important math concepts with their younger buddy. It is an inspiring leadership and learning opportunity for all students involved. Special thanks goes out to Polly and all of the teachers that have helped to create this project.

Next week is certainly a short one! School will take place on Monday and Tuesday. The rest of the week can be spent enjoying family and friends.  I wish you much relaxation, peace and fun.

With deep thanks and appreciation,

Jackie Mendonsa, Principal

Small Extra Clothes Wanted

If anyone has extra clothes to fill our nurse’s bureau (especially small size underwear, pants, socks and shirts), please send them in with your child.  Also, if you find any clothes at your home labeled with “SES,” please send them back in to school.  Extra clothes make the day much more comfortable for children who get sick, have accidents or jump in puddles, and we are running low!!  Thank you!

***PTO NEWS***

Hello Shutesbury Elementary School community,
We have a new tool for signing up to volunteer for PTO events and fundraisers. Please see in your email a signup request from Signup Genius. This will be the new format we use when requesting volunteer time from our community. We are excited to try it out. Please open the email and simply “signup” for our test of this program. This way, we will all become familiar with this program and I can see that it works!
Be on the lookout for Signup Genius emails throughout the year as we approach various community events and fundraisers.
If you have any questions please contact me!
Thank you all ahead of time for the gifts you give to our children and our community. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of parents, students and teachers to call our own.
May this year be a great one,

Sarah Ettelman
PTO co-president

Once again, it’s time for the annual Open Farm and Holiday Sale at Craigieburn Farm alpacas.  This is our final year for hosting our annual holiday event.  The support we have received from Shutesbury and our neighboring communities has been heart-warming.  Our decade as alpaca farmers has connected us to the earth in inspirational ways.  We are deeply grateful for this experience in our journey.

So please come one last time.  Visit our farm, sip cider, enjoy some holiday shopping and meet the whimsical creatures that provide us with soft and insulating fiber.  Our selection of products includes yarn, roving, sweaters, shawls, jackets, throws, hat, socks, gloves, and soft, cuddly teddy bears.

We are located at 243 W. Pelham Rd (Shutesbury), across from Leonard Rd.  Visit our website (Alpacas4u.com) for more details or call us (413-253-4485).  Not a school sponsored event.
