Dear SES Moose,

Well, it has been another interesting wintery week. Mother nature does not want us to have a full week of school it seems! Several families were a bit confused on Wednesday in regards to whether or not there was a delay. I’d like to take this opportunity to reiterate what to look for and where to look for school closings/delays. I also make a call to families announcing the delay or closure of school, unless you’ve opted out of these emergency calls. The school website (www.shutesburyschool.org) is also updated to show a delay or closure. In addition, school closures and delays are advertised on the television on WWLP (Channel 22) and WGGB (Channel 40) as well as various local radio stations (see attached inclement weather flyer for specific stations). Shutesbury Elementary School is a part of the Erving School Union 28 NOT Amherst Public Schools.  For your reference, we have included our inclement weather and school closings reference sheet in this week’s Roadtown.

Due to the weather, the Superintendent Candidate interviews by the Joint Supervisory Committee will take place on Tuesday, February 3 at Erving Elementary School. Tara Brandt will be interviewed at 6:00pm, and Jennifer Haggerty at 7:30 pm. Following the interviews, the community will be able to provide written feedback to the Committee. The Committee will then publicly discuss the candidates and vote for the new Superintendent. The Shutesbury community is encouraged to attend!

It’s hard to believe that we are entering February and that we have February vacation in two weeks! Report cards will be coming home on February 13th! Have a great weekend, and for those of you who are football fans, enjoy the Superbowl!

***PTO NEWS***

Hello SES community! On February 9th, at 6pm the PTO is having an auction postcard stamping party! We will meet in the conference room at school, put stamps on the postcards being sent to businesses in Pioneer Valley and beyond, thanking them for previous donations and reminding them to donate an item or service to our Spring 2015 Auction. Many of you signed up with our new Sign-up Genius program to help with this event. Thanks so much! For those of you who have not yet signed up, but want to attend, come on over that evening! We will have pizza, drinks and music to keep us going! There will be many hands and this will make our work much lighter.

Thank you all so much!
Shutesbury PTO
