NO SCHOOL.  SPRING RECESS.

Dear Fellow Moose,

We are so grateful for the more mild temperatures and to finally welcome April. Spring is in our grasp and it can't come fast enough. The huge snow mounds are slowly melting away and little bursts of green are coming up.

The past two weeks we have welcomed students and families into the school for conferences. Families shared some time with teachers to speak about student progress and life at school. It was wonderful to see so many families in our halls and classrooms.

Last night the PTO hosted a special STEM night! We had so much fun reading a story and constructing fun structures! The theme was the Three Little Pigs and students had to construct strong houses that withstood the huffing and puffing of the "wolf" (hairdryers). Many thanks go to the PTO-- especially Katie McLaughlin, Carrie Hawkins, Mary King, Debbie Lee, and Polly Wagner.

This week students and staff were also treated to a performance and some instruction from the Smith College Dancers taught by Marilyn Sylla. Marilyn was our artist in residence this year, so it was a treat to welcome her back with her amazing students.

MCAS testing begins next week for grade 6. We have included a schedule in the RTN for your review. A good night's sleep, a nice breakfast and some play time outdoors are always helpful during testing days. We provide a snack for students during testing days, and also include extra recess and fresh air.

See you in April!

Jackie

DITCH THE WORKOUT, JOIN THE PARTY!

A Zumba class run by Shutesbury Elementary School’s own Susan Kahn (certified Zumba instructor) will be held in the SES gym on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm beginning on Thursday, March 8.  Free class!  Donations accepted to benefit the Shutesbury PTO!

ZUMBA

Dance fitness classes that are fun, energetic, and make you feel amazing!

Perfect For

Everybody and every body! Each Zumba® class is designed to bring people together to sweat it out.

HOW IT WORKS

We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check and check.

BENEFITS

A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

WHAT TO WEAR

For this one-hour cardio jam session, wear whatever makes you comfortable for movement. Yoga pants, leggings, sweats, etc. work for bottoms and t-shirts, tanks work for tops. Shoes vary---some prefer tennis shoes, some bring dance sneakers, others like to go barefoot.

And here's a link to a video that captures just some of the fun we have! Every class is unique, but it's always a good time!
