Kindergarten-6th Grade Open House, 6:00pm

Dear Moose Community,

It was great to end the rainy week with a beautiful day! Our 5th and 6th graders had a great time at Morse Hill today. They went on ropes courses and participated in activities that built trust and strong relationships! How fortunate we are that Morse Hill is right in Shutesbury!

After feedback from staff and families, we have decided to keep our Open House format from last year! On September 26th, families and students are invited back to school at 6:00 pm for our Open House. Students will be able to give tours of their classrooms and the school. Families will get to meet the teachers, see the classroom and understand some of the learning and expectations of the year. Families will be able to take a walk around the track, visit all the specialist teachers and play on the new playground. The Open House will take place between 6:00-7:00pm. We will gather as a community halfway through to hear greetings from the various committees that make the school run!

We are looking for a parent representative for School Council. School Council meets 4-5 times a year from 3:15-4:15pm to talk about how things are running and what we can do to ensure the continued success of SES. We talk a bit about enrollment, curriculum and activities. The committee has parents, teachers and community members on it. If you would like to be part of this committee please send your name to me ([email protected]). If more than 1 person is interested, there will need to be a vote at Open House by the community. If that is the case, you will be asked to speak for a minute to the community about why you are interested. Please let me know if you are interested!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Jackie

BOXTOPS! BOXTOPS! BOXTOPS!

Each year our school earns approximately $200. 00 from the Boxtops for Education program. Have you seen the boxtops logos on your cereal boxes and food wrappers? Lots of grocery products and office supplies have boxtops! Some examples of popular brands that participate are Annie’s, Cascadian Farms, General Mills, Paper Mate,  Ziplocs, and LaraBars.  Before you put those in the recycling , cut the boxtops out and send them to the school!  Each boxtops earns us 10 cents. As you can see they really do add up  You can send in boxtops to the school anytime.  Remember to check their expiration dates.  Anything with a 2017 date or older can be tossed!

Thanks,

Amber O’Brien & Tyler Schenck

PIANO LESSONS

All styles, All levels, All ages

I am a local music teacher with over 20 years teaching children and adults.  Flexible scheduling is available and lesson plans are tailored for each student.  My teaching style builds on Suzuki technique while expanding students’ musical repertoire to include varieties of Popular and Classical music.  This Fall take your musical knowledge to the next level! Call Amber at (413) 367-2367 or e-mail [email protected].

Fall is coming and before the rakes and snow shovels come out get your body moving.  Head to the Shutesbury Elementary School gym for 4 nights of Aiki Movement classes from 6-6:45pm. We meet on Monday September 10th, 17th, 24th and October 1.

These classes are for anyone who wants to improve their movement awareness and body integration.

Each session will focus on:

Stretching while incorporating Aikido Movements

This class is taught by two friends (Ria & Charles) who have been teaching and practicing Aikido for 30 + years. For this special class we are leaving the martial out and delving into the art of Aiki stretching or what we call Aiki Movement.

The focus will be on developing awareness of one’s “Ki”, whole body centering, balance, and getting our body to stretch and flex in a safe environment.

This class is especially helpful if you are interested in an extended warmup and gentle, active movement yet not really interested in a full on martial arts class.  We invite those who have a compromised movement system yet want to move more.  We assist you in moving from where you are in your current physical state.

Stretch into Fall on Monday nights from 6-6:45pm

September 10, 17, 24 and Oct 1, 2018

Location: Shutesbury Elementary School Gym

Price: $10 per class

Please private message me, Ria, or call 413-367-9787 to register or for more info.

Hope to see you at the gym as we get our bodies moving and grooving for the coming Fall and Winter.
