Dear Moose Community,

What a fabulous performance we had on Tuesday! The students were truly incredible! We had a packed house and the audience was so supportive. The students were beaming with pride and joy. Everyone arrived on time and ready to go. The familiar and fun songs and dances were so entertaining. Lines were delivered with enthusiasm and poise. BRAVO! Of course, this could not have happened without the hard work of our fabulous Music/Performing Arts teacher, Ms. Samm! Thank you, Ms. Samm!  Great appreciation goes to our custodians, Matt and Andy, for helping set up everything and to Ja'Duke for the loan of the backdrop and costumes! The love and support for our school and students from the community is truly special. We are indeed lucky to be in this school community.

The PTO is having an SES cookbook and apron fundraiser! Students and staff submitted tasty recipes that have been compiled into a great cookbook. An apron has been designed with our school Moose and colors. These items are now available to purchase. The apron and cookbook are each $15.00 but you can get both for $25. The order form is attached to this Roadtown. Thank you to the PTO for putting this together and to the families who shared a favorite recipe!

This is the last week that our school counselor, Mr. Quinn, will be at SES. Mr. Quinn is moving on to challenge himself professionally in an urban district. We are grateful to Mr. Quinn for his work with our students and wish him the best. We have posted for a full time School Psychologist. In the interim, Aethena Enzer-Mahler will work at SES part-time to provide counseling while we interview candidates. Aethena is a licenced social worker who has been working with SES for several years. She is very familiar with the school, teachers and students.

Next week is the last week of school before our December break. It is a bit surreal that we will have 5 more school days and then when we come back to school it will be 2020! Incredible! We will all return to school on Thursday, January 2, 2020!

***SCHOOL NEWS***

Hello Shutesbury Community,

In PE we have been playing some of our season favorites. In fall we played turkey run, where students run through a labyrinth of obstacles while avoiding throwers in the aim of reaching turkey island. Our students were practicing dodging and being elusive, while performing moves that are worthy of ESPN's 10 ten plays of  the week, all that I wish we could view in slow motion. Additionally, we always keep our values in mind while playing any game. A recent value being pulled from the world of Harry Potter  "It is our choices, Harry, that show us who we really are, far more than our abilities" -Dumbledore.  Here our students found growth through understanding the power of their choices as we discussed how EVERYTHING THAT MATTERS in our PE classroom is THEIR CHOICE and under their control. We discovered this means it is not how fast you are or high you can jump but rather, how hard you try, how you treat your teammates, and how you accept/respond to challenges. I am so proud of how our young learners continue to grow this school year. Enjoy an active winter season and our pictures. Play often and stay strong!

Sincerely, Mr. Steven A. Carra

***MOOSE INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK***

Olivia from 5th Grade

ON

JCB:  What do you like best about school?
ON:  The specials – I like gym is my favorite special, then music.  I also like recess and lunch.

JCB:  What do you like to do when you’re at home?
ON:  When I’m at home I like to watch TV sometimes.  We get a homework packet every month and I do that too.  And I usually go to gymnastics after school, so I do that too.

JCB:  What’s your favorite book?
ON:  My favorite book?  That’s hard.  Well, my favorite series is Wings of Fire or Dork Diaries.

JCB:  What do you want to be when you grow up?
ON:  I’ve always wanted to be an astronaut but if I can’t I also want to be a gymnastics coach.

JCB:  What is your favorite food?
ON:  Chicken alfredo.

JCB:  Who makes it the best?
ON:  My sister makes it pretty good, but I think my dad makes it the best.

JCB:  What do you like to do on the playground?
ON:  Usually I like to go on the swings sometimes, but if it’s snowy outside I like to play in the snow and roll down the mountain.

JCB:  Is there anything else you’d like the Shutesbury community to know about you?
ON:  I think that’s pretty much it, but I used to do basketball but I don’t do it anymore.
