NO SCHOOL, Thanksgiving Break

November 13, 2020

Dear SES Families,

We've already reached mid-November? How did that happen? Students and teachers have been busy learning so much!

We are working incredibly hard to plan to begin to welcome back students in a hybrid model.  On Wednesday November 18th I will be holding a virtual informational meeting about our hybrid model at 6:30 PM. This meeting will be geared toward the Pre-K through 2nd grade families, but all families are invited to attend. We will have more informational meetings focused on our older students in early January. I strongly encourage Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade caregivers to attend the meeting on Wednesday. I will review our Hybrid Handbook and also offer some time for some questions. I will send a reminder email on Monday and include the link to the meeting. You will also be able to find the link on the front page of our website.

On Thursday November 19th, I will be sending out a survey to ask our Pre-K through 2nd grade families if they will opt to return to SES in a hybrid format or remain fully remote. It is incredibly important that families respond to that survey as quickly as possible so that we have accurate data to finalize our plans with.

The basic daily schedule of the hybrid model:

8:30 am -11:30 am in-person (at school)

Lunch and recessat home(11:30-1:00)

1:00 pm - 3:10 pm remote learning (excluding Wednesdays)

Monday-Friday

The schedule for return to school in a hybrid format is as follows:

· Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade will begin hybrid learning on December 7th. (They will have remote instruction January 4, 5 and 6, 2021.)

· Grades 5 and 6 will begin hybrid learning January 20, 2021

· Grades 3 and 4 will begin hybrid learning February 3, 2021

Families may choose the option to continue as a remote student only. Please know that the remote instruction will look and feel different than what has been happening in the first 10 weeks of school. I will discuss this difference at the informational night on the 18th.

Thank you for your kindness and support as we navigate these very big plans with as much compassion and thoughtfulness as possible!

Jackie

Hello Shutesbury Community,

We’ve had quite a few chilly days in October and early November which have reminded us that winter is coming! In the past few years, I’ve had a winter weather clothing swap at the school. Unfortunately, I can’t find a way to safely do this at the school this year. However, I do have some warm clothes from last year. If anyone would like to either donate winter weather clothes that no longer fit or are in need of some warmer clothing for this year please contact me and I can meet up with families and help dress our students for the winter season.

Stay warm!

Hike for Hunger

Hike for hunger is a “virtual” event this year due to the pandemic.

Everything for Hike for Hunger is online with the exception, of course, of the hiking.

Hike for Hunger is where you hike as much as you want, wherever you want and raise money for the Amherst Survival Center while doing the hiking!

Each time you hike a mile or a hour you can go to the website you used to register and mark down how much you have walked.

You can hike anywhere you like! Any state, any trail, any mountain.

You don’t even have to hike to participate, say you just want to make a donation you can go to any team or participant’s page and click the DONATE button!

Even better you don’t even have to hike! You can run, bike, hike, etc, anything you want!

The sixth grade is going to be doing this at a class and we will give you updates as we go!
