SNOW?? It is a little crazy to be sending the students off on April vacation with a snowstorm! I hope that everyone has had a cozy day and that students enjoyed being able to spend extra time in PJ's for remote learning today. I have heard that some parts of Shutesbury have 8+ inches of snow!

Our last day of school for students this year is Thursday, June 17th. This means that we have 8 full weeks of school left after the vacation. Our teachers and students are thrilled that several more remote students will be joining us in school after the break. There will be only 6 remote students left in all of our classrooms. We are hoping to make the last 8 weeks super meaningful. We are excited to announce that we will have our annual Artist-in-Residence experience! Actors from the Piti Theater Company will be teaching outdoor improv and acting classes to all of our students in May! More detailed information to come!

We want to tweak some pick up times on Wednesdays, as the traffic and congestion on that day seems to be tricky. Please see the chart below:

Please remember to send your child to school with sunscreen ON every day. Also, please send a hat to protect them from the sun, and a water bottle. Sneakers should be worn by students, or rain boots if it is going to be wet.

A GIANT THANK YOU TO THE SIEBING/ROTH HOWE FAMILY (Tuva from Grade 2's family!) for helping get amazing rain pants donated to our younger classrooms!! They have already been put to good use. Staff and students are SO grateful for this support!

Have a fantastic weekend and vacation week! Let's hope the snow melts quickly and we can enjoy a beautiful relaxing break. We'll see everyone back at school on April 26th!

A Few Reminders from the Health Office

Spring has arrived so I just wanted to send out a few reminders as classes are spending a lot of time outdoors.

Sunscreen:  Please apply in the morning before school. You can send some in with your student for self-application. Staff are not allowed to apply sunscreen to children. Please also send your child with a hat that blocks the sun from their face. If your young child cannot reapply sunscreen and needs reapplication during the day, a permission note for me to reapply is needed. I cannot apply sunscreen without parent/guardian approval.

Ticks:  Check your child every day after arriving home from school for ticks. Ticks like to hide close to socks on the ankles, under arms, groin area, and scalp. To remove a tick, use tweezers to grasp the head of the tick and pull straight up. After removing, wash the area and apply antibacterial ointment. Do not use vaseline to remove ticks.

Bug spray:  Families can choose to spray children with bug spray prior to coming to school. Do not send any spray in with your student. It cannot be applied in school.

Poison ivy:  Classes are spreading out more outside to give each other space. They are venturing into different wooded areas and having a great time exploring. We have seen a few cases of poison ivy, please make sure you show your child what poison ivy looks like. All staff members are aware and on the lookout.

ALSO, don’t forget to keep filling out the Symptom Checklist!!
