Dear SES Moose Community,

Our school year is off to a “moose-tastic” start! On Wednesday, it was wonderful to gather as a school community and share in some summer adventures, welcome new friends and re-connect with each other. One of our parents, Melissa Warwick, created the traditional journals for the 6th graders to present to the Kindergarteners (Thanks Melissa!). Julie Stepanek also joined us to play some ukulele and lead some school-wide singing.  Mara Hahn and the PTO organized the Yahoo/ Boohoo Breakfast for parents and guardians in the conference room (thanks for all families who donated treats!). It was a delightful morning, and we are so lucky for the community members that help us provide such a meaningful start to school.

There are a few major changes at SES that I wish to highlight. The first few are centered on building safety and dismissal. The main doors will be locked from 8:20 am to 4:00pm. This is to ensure the safety of everybody in the school. We ask that ALL school community members use the front doors to the school to enter and exit the building. Students that are being picked up by a parent or guardian for dismissal will be dismissed in the Library. This is to ease the congestion and increase the safety of dismissal.

Information regarding the after-school program was sent home in first day packets. Aside from a new After School Director, Amie Trinque, there are some new policies and procedures in place. A major shift is that all after-school services must be pre-paid. Families that use the program must pre-pay for any time their student(s) will attend.

We have some new staff at SES. Martina Dooley- Carvalho has joined us as our office assistant. You will see (or hear from) her in the office in the mornings. We have 2 new para-educators joining us as well. Judie Belanger will be working in the 5th and 6th grades, and Adriana Rich will be working in our Pre-K.  Patricia Convery is also joining us for the first 6 weeks as the grade 3 teacher.

Mark your calendars for Open House on September 23rd! We are looking forward to welcoming families into our beautiful school and sharing information about the teaching, learning and opportunities that are happening!

I have been so thrilled to see the smiling faces of our students every day. I am so looking forward to an exciting, productive and meaningful school year.

Sincerely,

Jackie Mendonsa
