Dear SES Community,

Our classrooms are alive and buzzing with lots of new learning. It has been a real pleasure to observe the special classroom communities that are being created in these initial weeks of school.  Building a sense of belonging and inclusiveness within the classrooms and the school as a whole is a real strength of SES. We are proud of our school family.

We hope you are planning on attending our Open House on September 30th. The times are as follows:

  • Pre-K- 6:00-6:30 pm
  • Kindergarten- 3rd grade- 6:30- 7:15 pm
  • All grades/community gathering in gym 7:15-7:45 pm
  • 4th grade-6th grade 7:45-8:15 pm

Our SES School Council is looking for a new parent/guardian representative! The School Council is a committee that is tasked with examining and creating the School Improvement Plan as well as brainstorming and planning other things that can help make SES even stronger. The Council usually meets the second Tuesday of every month from 3:30-5:00 pm.  If you are interested in becoming part of the School Council, please let Ms. Mendonsa know ASAP. If there is more than one person, there will be a brief election at Open House, where you may be asked to share a few words (written and verbally). We had a fantastic experience with School Council last year, and we look forward to another year of meaningful and productive meetings and results.

The annual “Celebrate Shutesbury” event will be taking place this Saturday, September 19th from 10:00 am-2:00 pm on the Town Common. The SES PTO will be providing a bounce house for the event! We hope you come and eat some delicious food, enjoy live music, play games, jump in the bounce house and enjoy your fellow “Shutesburians”.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Jackie Mendonsa

Moose Interview of the Week

Hunter from 6th Grade!

JM: What do you like about SES?

HS: I like how all the teachers are really nice and trustworthy. I can always count on  them to help me.

JM: What’s your favorite subject?

HS: It would probably be writing – especially when I get to type. I am strong at typing and I can write well.

JM: Any idea what you want to be when you grow up?

HS: Not exactly… but I do want to be some kind of video game designer.

JM: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

HS: It’s not super healthy, but biscuits. With butter. Warmed.

SUZUKI PIANO LESSONS

Take piano lessons right here in Shutesbury!  I am a local music teacher and parent of two Shutesbury students. With over 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages I have developed an approach which blends traditional Suzuki teaching methods together with classical as well as popular music.  Students love to learn playing songs right away!

Each student is unique with their own strengths.  I will tailor the pace of learning to meet each individual.  Some children prefer to move at a slower pace while others move more quickly. I strive to make lessons both focused and fun!

I teach students of all ages. Currently I have openings afterschool on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Mondays. Feel free to call  Amber O'Brien at (413) 367-2367 or e-mail for more information [email protected].
