Dear Moose,

What a great week at SES! It was really wonderful to see all of you on Wednesday at our fabulous performances of “The Last Winter”. The students were absolutely beautiful in the production. As a community, we are so grateful to Ashley and Caddy Carlisle, our Artists-in Residence from the Center Dance Studio in Amherst.  The process of their work with the students over the past two months has been such a meaningful opportunity. I feel so honored to be part of a school community that values the arts and the value they bring. After the Saturday night performance, one parent told me that her son came home and said, “ Mom, I think I want to be a professional dancer”. That comment was the cherry on top of this experience for me.

Below, please find a few snapshots of the event. Thanks again to the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the PTO for their help with funding. Many thanks also go to the staff that put in extra time and effort to help make it a success. It was a wonderful production. I found the students’ dancing truly beautiful. What a perfect and moving way to finish off 2015.

Next week, we have school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (the 21st, 22nd and 23rd). We then have our winter break from December 24th until January 4, 2016! I am wishing you all a fabulous break and happy new year. I can’t believe that we will return to SES in 2016!

See you in 2016!

JM: What do you love about SES?

JB: I like the community.

JM: What do you like to do in your spare time?

JB: I like to cook and bake and be with my kids and my family.  I like to cook more than I like to bake.

JM: Tell me something interesting about yourself.

JB: I’ve done a lot of travelling. I have been to Prague, Paris, Italy and Spain. I’ve been cross-country a couple of times.

JM: What place that you’ve travelled to has been your favorite?

JB: Italy. I would like to go back and explore the Czech Republic or Eastern Europe in general.

JM: If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

JB: French fries, hands down.

JM: Anything on them?

JB: Salt, lots of it.

Billion Mile Race Grant – Our school was awarded a $500 grant through the Billion Mile Race Grant to construct a track in our upper field!!  Last year the 4th grade participated in the 100 Mile Club as part of this organization, attempting to walk/run 100 miles during the school year (that’s approximately 3 miles per week).  Hopefully with our new track we can incorporate more students and staff and hit that 100 mile mark!  Any parent/guardian interested in helping with a Community Preservation Grant application (due January 15) for the same project can contact Jessica at [email protected].  Thank you!
