January 29, 2016

Dear Moose,

February is upon us!  Did you know that 2016 is a Leap Year? We will enjoy 29 days of February this year. Let’s hope we continue to have a mellow snow season—our school’s roof is grateful for a break from all of that snow.

February includes a PTO meeting on the 2nd (note new time of 7:00-8:00pm), Report Cards going home on the 5th, and February Vacation that will occur from February 15-19th. The School Committee meeting is being moved to the 25th due to vacation.

Did you know that every day we are getting 2 more minutes of daylight? Keep that thought in your mind as we continue to face our chilly temperatures.

Shutesbury T-shirts are still available. The tradition of wearing SES shirts on assembly days is beginning! Many students and staff think it would be fun to have a gym full of school spirit on assembly days. Some students have decided to make their own shirts—this is fantastic! Others have older Shutesbury shirts that are also great. Any gold/yellow or maroon shirts or shirts with moose on them would also work! Please contact the office for an order form if you’d like to purchase a T-Shirt!

We have adult sizes, too!

Enjoy the final days of January!

Moose Interview of the Week!

Isaiah from 6th grade!

JM: What do you love about SES?

IL: I like our teachers and the specials that we have. I like gym because it’s active and I can do sporty stuff.

JM: What do you like to do in your spare time?

IL: I like to play with my paintball guns and shoot at trees outside.

JM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

IL: I want to be a glass blower. At least that is the first job I want.

JM: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

IL: Peas.

JM: Are you serious?!?

IL: Yes. I love peas. They are the most amazing things. They are not filling so I can eat them all day.

***SCHOOL NEWS***

*CONGRATS ON THE ‘MARY POPPINS’ PERFORMANCE, MS. MENDONSA AND ARIN!  During the past 2 weekends Shutesbury’s own Ms. Mendonsa and Arin Andrews (4th grade) performed in the Amherst Community Theater’s rendition of “Mary Poppins!”  Many staff and families were able to go and support them, and the show was fantastic.  We are so proud of both of you!

*SUPPLIES NEEDED!

SES is in need of a few used items that some families might be willing to donate.  We are still looking for decks of playing cards, Legos, and G-rated children’s movies on DVD.  If you are able to donate any of these items to the school, please send them in to the office with your child.  Thank you for the donations of coloring books and VHS movies!
