Dear SES Community,

It was certainly a blustery week! Our “ice day” was an unexpected twist to a very busy time of year! Today was the final day for SES mascot voting! Next week, Student Council members will tally and reveal the winner. Stay tuned to see what/who won!

Our students and staff have been hard at work with rehearsing and preparing for our whole school performance of “Switch on the Night”! Flyers went home with students this week, and one is attached to this week’s Roadtown as well! We are very excited to bring this unique production to our community. The performance is inspired by Ray Bradbury’s book, Switch on the Night. The performance focuses on the beauty of the night. All SES students have been a part of creating, writing, acting, singing, dancing and rehearsing various “acts” for the production.

We will have a dress rehearsal on Wednesday, December 17th at 10:00 am, and a night performance on Wednesday, December 17th at 6:30 pm. Please have students at the school for the night performance by 6:15pm. Most students should dress in their costume of all black clothing!

We are still looking for donations of lanterns and white stringed lights! Please bring any donations to the office. We truly appreciate any and all help!

Last Friday the PTO and the Friends of the Library sponsored a mother/daughter workshop by Rachel Simmons. About 100 community members participated in this great program! A special thank you goes out to the PTO and The Friends of the Library for their support of this enriching opportunity and to Jen Culbreth for facilitating and organizing the process.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our performance of “Switch on the Night” next Wednesday!

Best,

Jackie Mendonsa, Principal

SES Student Interview of the Week!

Sara!

JM: What do you love about SES?

SH: Hmm. That’s hard. I pretty much like everything about it. Right now I’m interested in the Library and MCBA. It’s fun and I like to read.

JM: What do you like to do in your free time?

SH: ICE SKATING! I skate 3 days a week! I can do spins and jumps!

JM: What is your favorite food that Chef Gail makes?

SW: Probably the chicken parmesan and chicken teriyaki. Sometimes, I don’t like chicken, but I like hers.

***PTO NEWS***

Hello Shutesbury School community!

We are so excited about the upcoming Artist-in-Residence event on December 17, 6:30-8PM. Last year we enjoyed an amazing show of African drumming and dance. I still can’t believe our little school has the amazing opportunity to invite these talented artists to come and teach our children! These are the memories our families will have of our elementary school years. It takes a lot of hard work and effort to bring this program to fruition. The folks behind the scene work for weeks to prepare this event. As a thank you to the artists, parents, children and volunteers and so that we may continue this program for many years to come, the PTO will be passing around a “hat” for donations during this years program. This year is a puppetry theme. Please bring your wallets and change purses and be ready to give back! The PTO will collect these donations and place them in a fund that will cover some of this year’s expenses and hopefully leave some to support next years Artist-in-Residence program.

Thank you in advance. Together we are making amazing things possible for our children!

Hello Shutesbury Elementary School community,
We have a new tool for signing up to volunteer for PTO events and fundraisers. Please see in your email a signup request from Signup Genius. This will be the new format we use when requesting volunteer time from our community. We are excited to try it out. Please open the email and simply “signup” for our test of this program. This way, we will all become familiar with this program and I can see that it works!
Be on the lookout for Signup Genius emails throughout the year as we approach various community events and fundraisers.
If you have any questions please contact me!
Thank you all ahead of time for the gifts you give to our children and our community. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of parents, students and teachers to call our own.
May this year be a great one,

Sarah Ettelman
PTO co-president
