Dear SES Community,

It was such a joy to share our students’ amazing performance of “Switch on the Night” with you on Wednesday. As I craft this letter, I am smiling from ear-to-ear reflecting on the truly magical and inspiring performances that our students created and presented to our community. Each grade level designed a unique, creative and meaningful interpretation of the children’s book, Switch on the Night. Puppetry, music, singing, dancing, poetry, acting, writing, and the visual arts were all represented in our whole-school production. Our gym had standing room only as hundreds of families and community members gathered to celebrate the arts and our work with our very talented artists-in-residence from Enchanted Circle Theater, Anna Sobel and Melissa Redwin.

I want to reiterate what I said on Wednesday night, and give an enormous amount of thanks to our artists, SES PTO and also the Shutesbury Elementary School staff. The entire staff believes deeply in the power of school-based student creation and performance. They dedicate much time and incredible effort in helping to create special and meaningful productions. Performances such as this would not be able to happen without our extraordinary staff and the support of our PTO and community as a whole.

Attached to the Roadtown is a feedback form from Enchanted Circle. They (and we) would like feedback on the production. We would appreciate you taking the time to write your thoughts and takeaways from the show. You can send the form in with your child next week.

Next week, we will only gather at school for Monday and Tuesday. Our winter break will then begin from December 24th and continue until January 5th 2015. I wish you and your families much happiness, relaxation and fun over the break. I look forward to seeing you in 2015!!

Wishing you much peace,

Jackie Mendonsa, Principal
