Dear SES Moose,

Last Friday our school and community were treated to a musical

production of  “The Wizard of Oz”, adapted, directed and music

directed by 3rd grader, Arin Andrews. Our school community was

delighted by our students’ beautiful singing, great acting and

dancing too! Special thanks go to Arin’s mom Corinne, Evelynn

Goodhind, Ezzell Floranina and Jason Luetjen for their help to

make the student inspired and led production a success.

This week, students in grades 3-6 will participate in the MCBA Battle of the Books and Books in Action Party at Leverett (for those students who read 5 or more MCBA books!). These events are so special to the school community. A BIG thank you goes to Heather Lobenstine for organizing, encouraging and facilitating the special MCBA process in Shutesbury.

The town treasurer has informed us that all checks to SES need to be made out to “Town of Shutesbury” with the students’ names and program on the memo line. All checks need to be written in blue or black ink. I have attached the letter regarding this that was sent home earlier this week for your convenience.

Looking ahead, next Friday, March 13th is a Curriculum Day. Students will not attend school that day.  Also, PARCC testing will begin on March 23rd. I have included our testing schedule that was shared in last week’s Roadtown as an attachment as well.

Below, you will find a picture of sixth grader, Allison Brau and her little “antler-ed” friend. She knitted a friendly moose for SES! You can see Allison’s moose in our SES display case!

And don’t forget to “Spring Ahead” this weekend, setting your clocks forward by

one hour as we begin Daylight Savings Time!

SES Student Interview of the Week!

Anna!

JM: What do you love about SES?

AC-B: I like that you can learn lots of stuff. I like to learn about math—like how to solve sporty problems. I also like the lunches—the pizza is my favorite.

JM: What do you like to do in your spare time?

AC-B: I like to draw and write books. I like to read in my room.

JM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

AC-B: Hmmmm. A paleontologist! You can find dinosaurs that people haven’t found yet.

Calling all Wild Hearted Boys and Girls!  We are running an adventure week during April vacation - the 20th through the 24th and would love some local Shutesbury youth to join us.
Two parallel, single gender adventures that include nature connection, hiking, rock climbing, caving and paddling. Your child will have a chance to explore, inquire, play, reflect and dialogue in the context of the natural world. They will experience new things, make connections with others and be a vital part of a team in an environment full of curiosity and wonder.  Same gender instructors provide mentorship and facilitate a challenging and supportive environment.
Ages 9 - 13.  Convenient 9 am drop off and 4 pm pick up at Mill River Recreation Area in Amherst. See the Wild Hearted Programs tab at our website: www.AdventureinAdventureout.com  or call Pandora at 413-253-4910

Thank you!  Thanks so much for all of the generous donations from our community for The Cancer Connection, Inc.  It makes a huge difference in the lives of families dealing with a cancer diagnosis.  We heard many of their stories over the week on 93.9FM The River and during the campout – direct proof of this great organization helping our community.  Thanks for all of your support!
