Dear Moose,

What a busy, fantastic, joyous and memorable week we have enjoyed!

This week the 6th graders went on their class trip to Boston. They enjoyed a Duck Tour and experienced the Science Museum. Grades 3 and 4 went on a trip to the Hitchcock Center together. Grade 3 traveled to Plymouth to visit Plimoth Plantation with the 3rd Graders from Leverett!

We had an INCREDIBLE Field Day thanks to Mr. Carra, SES teachers and family volunteers! The hit of the day was the GIGANTIC inflatable obstacle course/ bouncy house. It was enjoyed by students and teachers alike! The weather was PERFECT- sunny but breezy and cool.

Today our students in the Drama Club will perform The Jungle Book at 2:15 and 6:30pm! This show is directed by 6th Graders Jordan Goodhind and Arin Andrews. They have developed this show and rehearsed it with the many Drama Club members! Special thanks go to Ms.McDonald and Ms. Berube for supervising the club. This will be the 4th production that Arin has created/directed or adapted. Many of the 6th graders have been a part of each of the 4 years, and many of the younger students have been a part of it for most of the performances. THANK you to all of our 6th grade drama leaders. We will miss you, but look forward to seeing you on your Middle and High School stages!  BRAVO!

I am happy to announce that we have hired a 5th grade teacher! Laura Ginsberg-Peltz will be joining us at SES next fall. Laura is THRILLED to be joining our community. She has taught many ages of students, most recently 3rd grade in Northampton. She is particularly excited to do some project-based units and community projects.

We have one week and a day left of this school year! We are looking forward to all of the ending events. Please refer to the ‘Dates to Remember’ to know next week's schedule!

Brianna from 1st/2nd Grade!

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do at school?
BK:  Art.

JCB:  What are you doing in art now?
BK:  Last time we finished up our...  I can’t remember but we were finishing up something probably for the Art Show.

JCB:  What is your favorite food?
BK:  French fries!  Sometimes I like them plain and sometimes I like them with ketchup.

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
BK:  Well, when my sister has Drama Club I like to play outside while I wait, on the school’s playground, which is what happened yesterday.

JCB:  What do you like to do at home, when you’re not at school?
BK:  I like to play games on the Ipad which is basically mine because no one else uses it.

JCB:  What book are you reading right now?
BK:  I like to read the Black Lagoon series.

JCB:  That sounds scary!
BK:  The little kid that does it makes it dramatic but the people are actually just normal people.  One of the books is about their class pet and it ended up just being a hamster!

JCB:  If you could be any animal what animal would you be and why?
BK:  My favorite animal... well, I would like to be a snake or a cat because I own a cat and I really love snakes.

JCB:  What are you looking forward to doing this summer?
BK:  Well, right now is basically summer but my dad’s coming back after a week….next week on Tuesday which is basically summer because we’re already in the summer months.  There’s 3 summer months.

JCB:  What are you looking forward to next year in 3rd grade?
BK:  In 3rd grade I’m looking forward to, you  know, different activities we’re going to do and the next Field Day to see what it’s going to be like.

SCHOOL SURVEY NOW AVAILABLE!!   Every year, the School Council requests your feedback on various school topics. We greatly value your thoughts and ideas. We have created our survey and we request you take 5 minutes to share some feedback around your child's experience at SES.  We have spent time creating a survey that does not take a long time, but that gives us information on your feedback. It is honestly a short task! You can even enter to win a prize at the end!  Please consider taking a small amount of time out of your day to complete our survey. Thanks so much in advance.

Thank you,

The SES School Council

In the month of May, students ran 570 miles total!!  We have run from Shutesbury to Orlando, FL to Tuscaloosa, Alabama!!  We are very excited that our track has been so popular with students, staff and the community at large throughout this spring!  Way to go, Moose!  This is our last week of the official Moose on the Move club.  We will continue adding in miles accumulated during PE and recesses.  Unfortunately we can only count miles walking to or from school, during school hours or during school functions.  But we encourage all students to do as much walking and running as they are able to!

After the last day of school, Monday, June 25, the community is welcome to utilize the track during the daytime hours.  We ask that if you bring a dog to walk on the track, kindly pick up anything your dog may leave behind!  Children often do not stay on the track so even animal feces on the grass should be cleaned up.  Thanks for your attention to this.
