FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR 2015-16 YEAR!

June 5, 2015

Dear Moose,

The countdown is on! We have 2 more weeks of school left! The last day of school is June 19th. Dismissal will occur at 1:00 on that day.

This week was full of special occasions. Grade 6 students presented their portfolio presentations. This special tradition includes the students creating memory boards and writing a reflection on their growth, successes, struggles and learning. They also share some artifacts that are meaningful to them. Community members come and coach students prior to the presentation. Community members also come and serve as part of the panel the students present to. BRAVO to the students for some truly amazing reflection and presentations. THANK YOU to the 5/6 teachers for their work with the students on this important rite of passage at SES. MANY THANKS go to the community members who offered their time and energy as a mentor or panelist. Finally, BIG THANKS to Mary Anne Antonellis for facilitating the days of presentation.

On Thursday and Friday of this week, Grade 2 students displayed their poetry in a fun and creative way! They created a beautiful poetry walk around the school grounds. Families and students received a special map to follow. As they followed the map, they were treated to many delightful poetry displays, created by the second grade! It was certainly a special treat!

Next Monday, June 8th is FIELD DAY!! Ms. Borkhuis, our PE teacher has been hard at work planning and preparing for a safe and fun day! Students will be receiving a special surprise that will help them keep cool and hydrated on this day! Don’t forget to send your child with sunblock, hats and SNEAKERS!

Looking ahead, a PTO meeting will take place in the evening of June 8th. Sixth graders will be off to Boston on a field trip on Thursday, June 11th and be graduating from SES on June 18th!

Looking forward to a fantastic last few weeks,

Jackie Mendonsa

SES Student Interview of the Week!

Peter!

JM: What do you love about SES?

PC-B: I love how you know everyone in the school. People are really nice. The teachers are nice. When you are stuck on something in class they help you a lot.

JM: What do you like to do in your spare time?

PC-B: Play soccer. I also like to read books. I usually read pretty big books. I finish 4 or 5 books a month.

JM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

PC-B: A soccer player! I like little kids, maybe a teacher, I guess.
